I love using vellum and out of boredom and sheer lack of creativity, I decided to use it give my stamped images a softer look. This card is easy and can be kept monochromatic and simple or embellished with more detail...which ever you choose!
Let's get started!
Let's get started!
To get started; you will need a cardstock base for an A2 card. Your matted piece should measure 4" x 5 1/4" and the white mat will measure 3 3/4" x 5". Your piece of vellum will need to also be cut to 3 3/4" x 5".
To begin, stamp your background image on the white mat, keeping in mind where your top image will be. I stamped my with black colorbox ink.

Next, you will want to lay your vellum over your stamped image (just be sure it's had time to dry) and stamp your image and your sentiment in Versamark if you wish to heat emboss. I chose to do mine that way with black embossing powder. You could also do black ink and it will show just fine!
This is what your Versamarked image will look like over your stamped mat. If you've never worked with Versamark before, it's a great item to have on hand. I prefer it to embossing ink for all of my heat embossing.
Lastly, heat emboss your image and sentiment, add a ribbon and mat on black using foam dimensional dots for a bit of dimension.
Easy peasy! This technique can also be used for almost any background...such as this card I made using a grunge set from Stampin Up!
